If Its Too Loud, You’re Too Old!

My name is Elizabeth Stone and I consider myself a ‘concert connoisseur’. I have been to well over 300 live shows. My very first concert was UFO & Ozzy Osbourne in San Antonio, Texas on February 19, 1982. Little did I know that this concert would become known as one of the most controversial shows in rock and roll history! Ozzy Osborn, who is obviously NOT a native Texan and having NO prior knowledge of the historical meaning, drunkenly proceeded to urinate on the side of the Alamo!! As a result, he was not only arrested, but was also banned from playing in San Antonio for ten years. Ozzy was released just in time to play the show! During the show, as the Ozzman belted out classics from “Diary of a Madman”, rioting began to break out inside the arena. People were smashing out windows and throwing chairs! Being very young, I was in awe at the whole experience; the riot, the guitars, the music, the stage, the lights, the whole scene!! It was then, that I became HOOKED on heavy metal!

Unfortunately, tragedy struck the music world as it often does. On March 19th, 1982, exactly one month to the day after the show in San Antonio, Ozzy along with the world, lost the phenomenal young guitarist named Randy Rhoads in a freak accident. RIP Randy.

With a serious passion for live music, I ended up living in none other than the Live Music Capital of the World! In the late ’80s, I hosted a live television show on the local Austin Access station entitled “The Music Connection” where I conducted interviews with local bands as well as national and also international acts. Now as a mother, I have enjoyed passing down the tradition of attending live events, to my children. My oldest attended her first concert, Sugar Ray, at 7 years old and has been enjoying live music ever since. She enjoys many different genres of music including her attendance to The Vans Warped Tour, and seeing Micheal Bublé from the 4th row! My second daughter’s first show was Hannah Montana and since then, has added Mackelmore, Wiz Kalifa, KISS, Migos and others to her list. My youngest attended her first concert during the ACL fest, where she saw The Eagles perform. Then…there was Justin Bieber.

YEP.. I said it .. I have even seen ‘The Biebs ‘in concert!!

Heavy metal is not just a passing phase, nor is it a collective music genre of screaming guitars, in the hands of long haired, leather wearing, headbangers. For some, heavy metal is a way of life. So without further a due- Welcome to the World of Heavy Metal!
