“DUEL” is the latest project from guitarist, Derek Halfmann. Originally hailing from San Angelo, Derek moved to Austin in 2001 and has been involved with the local music scene ever since. Derek is a music teacher at ‘The Austin School of Music’ north, located on the northeast corner of 183 A and 620 just outside of Cedar Park, Texas. His musical specialties include the electric and bass guitars.
Derek began playing guitar 28 years ago and has been teaching for 23 years, while establishing quite an impressive rapport here in Austin. He has played with many well-known local acts such as ‘Activator’ and ‘Super Heavy Goat Ass’. Derek is also currently the lead guitarist in a band bearing the name ‘Killa Maul’, which pays tribute to Metallica.The band includes Jason McMaster, singer for the popular 80’s progressive metal band ‘Watchtower’, as well as the iconic Austin band, ‘Dangerous Toys’.
During his career, Derek has opened for national artists such as the classic band, Blue Oyster Cult in 1997 with his original band ‘Buzzbomb’. Some of his other projects have included SWSX performances with local Austin favorites,‘The Skatenigs’ with singer Phil Owens and featuring Casey Orr of ‘Gwar’. He also performed alongside the legendary Grammy nominee, Mike Scaccia of the band ‘Ministry’.
“DUEL” will be performing on Halloween, October 31st, 2015 in Los Angeles, California.
