Anyone who has lived in Austin awhile or has been involved with the hard rock/metal music scene for any length of time, knows this guy! Dave Prewitt has been actively involved with local musicians since 1984 and has no plans of calling it quits any time soon. Originally from California, Dave moved to Llano, Texas where he remained until he turned 18. After that, it was a race to see how fast he could get to Austin, where he still resides today.
A self-proclaimed “electronics geek”, Dave has always enjoyed filming live bands for fun. In 1989, he began his career in the music industry from within a small room located in the back of the Dougherty Arts Center in Austin, Texas. This was the original location of Austin Access Television. His first venture, ‘CapZeyeZ‘, was created in 1989 and continued to air until 2007. Shortly afterward, in both 1994 and 1995, Dave won BILLBOARD MAGAZINES “Best Local Hard Rock Music Video Program“. He also produced a couple of other shows such as ‘rAw TiMe’ and ‘The Live Show’. With the changing of the times, Dave decided to direct his focus more toward the social media aspects of band promoting and the ‘DAVETV‘ concept was born on You Tube. In November 2014, ‘DAVETV‘ began broadcasting live via public access tv Channel 10, webcast and U-verse. With a You Tube fan base of about 3000 subscribers and over six million views, it is safe to say that ‘The King of Austin Access TV’ still wears the crown!
Although Dave has recorded video of iconic legends such as TED NUGENT and SAMMY HAGAR, IRON MAIDEN and HANK WILLIAMS III,, his passion still continues to lie within the heart of the Austin local music scene. His massive video collection of local music bands includes MINISTRY, AGONY COLUMN, D.R.I and even San Antonio rockers, PARIAH, just to name a few.
So, what is the secret to Dave’s success? It is very simple; he remains completely unbiased and impartial. When asked what advice he might pass on to upcoming, young hope fulls, he simply responded “Don’t F*%K around. Be true, don’t pick favorites. Promote a band you hate“……. Long Live the King!
