Hearts are heavy in the world of rock and roll, as one of the most beloved grunge singers, Christopher John Boyle, better known as, Chris Cornell was pronounced dead today, May 17, 2017. The singer’s death was ruled as a “suicide by hanging” although an official autopsy report has yet to be released at this time.
His wife of 13 years, Vicky Karayiannis, was reported in stating that there were no warning signs prior to his suicide nor were there any signs showing that this multi-talented musician had been struggling with such severe inner turmoil. His death came as a complete shock to his entire family. Cornell was on tour in Detroit, Michigan at his time of death and the suicide occured just a few hours after the show. The famed musician was only 52 years old.
Best known for his place in music history as the powerful voice of the Seattle-based band, SOUNDGARDEN.
He sang backup vocals for Eddie Vedder in the band, TEMPLE OF THE DOG. Vedder later went on to join the ranks of PEARL JAM. Some of Cornells’ best well-known projects included his work with the band AUDIOSLAVE, as well as ALICE IN CHAINS in the early 90’s.
RIP Chris Cornell…. It is such a shame that you could not find the peace within yourself, that which you gave so selflessly to all of your adoring fans. 😢
