Last Trip in the Abyss: Slayer Says Goodbye

Much to the dismay of all metalheads worldwide, the iconic metal band, SLAYER, recently announced that their current tour would unfortunately be their last. After hearing the news, a very special group of fans known as the ‘Slaytanic Soldiers 213’ began to plan the ultimate send off.

The Facebook group known as the ‘SS 213’ is more than just another fan site.

The group is a family of die hard fans. When SLAYER decided to call it quits, the group went to work planning a final farewell rally.

More than sixty people came from all over the United States to attend the metal gala along with two members hailing from Canada and one who came all the way from Japan.

The rally was loaded with events for the 213 members to attend. The itinerary included everything from a visit to Dimebag Darrell Abbott’s gravesite to attending a “Slaytanic” barbeque. Prizes were raffled off, while the 213 members enjoyed good food and great company!!

The Arlington Police Department even made a brief appearance to the barbque and joining the 213 in paying homage to SLAYER!

Some of the members attended a guitar clinic with Gary Holt and as luck would have it, his beautiful wife, Ms. Lisa Holt was there.

One of the members from the SS213, David Medlen, won the guitar giveaway.

The First Lady of Metal, Mrs. Sandra Araya, came out to greet the members of the 213.

As the venue filled with concert goers, members of the SS213 made their way into the show.

The show opened with a performance by Testament as they ravaged the stage.

The second band to play was Behemoth, who toured with Slayer and Lamb Of God just last year.

Anthrax followed suite, as they played some of their older songs and as always, delivered an awesome set.

Then the high energy band Lamb of God played and finally…. Slayer took the stage!

Slayer delivered one of the best performances ever! Tom belted out his classic vocals as Kerry and Gary took turns masterfully shredding their guitars. It was definitely a night to remember and will forever be etched into metal history!

As the set ended, the master himself, Tom Araya, walked onto the stage and thanked the fans for their many years of support, loyalty and above all, for their love of SLAYER.

There was not a dry eye in the house as Araya finished his goodbye speech to these loyal, lifelong fans.

As all good things must end, saying goodbye is always the hardest part of the rally and especially now that SLAYER has retired.

So what of the SS213? Well.. Family is family! There will be more rallies, more music, more barbques and undoubtedly more pits!

And as for SLAYER…

Fans will just have to wait patiently to see what lies ahead! \m/

  3. Fantastic article sister Elizabeth. I too am a proud member of the ss 213, Aussie Posse chapter. I couldn’t make the rally, to far from Australia. I did enjoy all the pics and vids that my fellow 213 brothers and sisters posted, we certainly are a family like no other. We here in Australia are patiently waiting for Slayer to return to our shores and will have a mini Aussie Posse rally when they do come.🤘
