Running with the Devil

The iconic rock band, Van Halen will be performing live in Austin at the 360 Amphitheater on Monday, September 21, 2015. Unfortunately original bassist Michael Anthony, will not be performing with the band. Instead, Wolfgang Van Halen, who is Eddie’s son, will be slapping those classic base lines in his place. Being a long time fan myself, I anticipate that it will be rather interesting to see whether or not Wolfgang can pull off that classic Van Halen bass sound, as I am sure many other fans will be curious about as well.

In the beginning of their tour, “Diamond Dave” Lee Roth, the lead singer and the front man of the band, had an unfortunate  incident with an microphone stand during a televised performance on the ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live’ show. While spinning the metal stand in a figure eight pattern, Roth suddenly lost control of it and the stand whipped around, hitting him directly across the bridge of his nose! OUCH!! After a brief intermission, Dave took the stage and continued to sing like trooper, now with a Band-aid pasted across his wounded nose. Who cares if he looked like he’s wearing a Breathe Rite strip !! Come on! THIS IS VAN HALEN!!

Most of all, I am looking forward to the experience of seeing Eddie Van Halen again, as he performs those legendary guitar riffs that made him famous. I have seen Van Halen one other time, when they headlined at the Texas Jam in Dallas many years back, but the bands line up included the ‘Red Rocker’ himself, Sammy Hagar. Roth was not with them then. The combination of Dave’s infamous stage antics, backed by Eddie, Alex and Wolfgang Van Halen, should make make for an interesting and fun show!  I hope to see you there!
